InnoVites releases bottle-neck scheduling solution for cable manufacturing
10/12/2011 » InnoVites B.V. announces the release of a new module of InnoVites for Cable to optimally load bottle-neck resources in a cable factory. This module is available from version 2.10 of InnoVites for Cable.
The module is designed to reduce the set-up times for processes such as extrusion and armoring. Scheduling the production orders in the right sequence increases the output of these bottleneck resources and improves the bottom line of the company. InnoVites continuously enriches its software solutions with capabilities that create value for our customers. The Lean concepts are a guiding principle in the development of new functionalities.

In manufacturing it’s important to maximize the output of the bottle neck resource. The bottleneck resource in cable production is very often the extrusion or the armoring process. To make sure that the machines are optimally loaded, it’s important to minimize the setup and change-over costs.
To minimize the setup and change-over costs it’s important to optimize the sequence of production
orders. The optimal sequence depends on properties of the cable design.
E.g. to minimize set-up losses at the extrusion, the insulation material should be sequenced from lighter to darker colors.

The Scheduling module is also an easy tool for the production planner to optimally load active production orders on the various production resources.
The planner uses an overview screen to see the active production orders, and can move orders between production resources with just some mouse clicks.
